Strange Fruit regroup and reconfigure Gerald Simpson's recordings for the legendary radio DJ, updating the original compilation released on the Dutch East India label with material from his second and third sessions recorded in August 1989 and June 1995. The arrangement of the track listing in historical order gives a real feel for the Mancunian producer's progression, with Chicago house dominating the opening "Time Waits For No Man" before dropping into the electro influences of "Satisfaction" and closing with four tracks of his unique shape-shifting drum & bass popularised within the "Black Secret Technology" album for Juicebox and on his Essence longplayer for Studio K7. Although there are occasional lapses of quality, these are far outweighed by the high points whether that's the seminal vocal cut "Emotions Electric" or the pedestrian strings and fluttering percussion which drives "I124Q" forward.--Kingsley Marshall
