Love Tractor began life in the early eighties, part of the then burgeoning Athens, Georgia music scene. Originally an instrumental outfit, they added vocals towards the end of that decade, with Mike Richmond growing measurably more assured with each successive release. After an extended hiatus they're back, Richmond being the leader and mainstay. While they're noticeably heavier than their jangle-fueled beginnings, there's still a strong compositional sensibility, as well as catchy guitar riffs layering atop one another. It's all now given extra wallop by dint of lyrics which add an air of mystery, peeking out from the chunky guitar chords and big beats in alluringly compelling phrases (such as "I overcame my grief and watched the thunder clouds leaving town"). --David Greenberger
